Kashyap Rajput is a community which is found mainly in Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan in India. Many members of this community have migrated from India to Canada, USA, Australia and European countries. The Kashyap Rajputs are descendants of ancient Hindu and Indo-Aryan, with some converting to Sikhism and a few others to Islam during the Mughal period. They claim to be the descendants of the venerated figure Kashyap Rishi.
The ruling community of Chamba state in Himachal Pradesh belong to the Kashyap Rajput community. Only the Kashyap Rajputs were allowed to carry the paalki of a queen or princess, and they held positions as mounted royal guards.Eklavya,from epic Mahabharta , a tribal Nishad prince is also considered to be a part of this community. The Rajputs from the Kashyap clan were the most trusted by kings, with whom they would travel as confidants and personal guards. They also had more freedom and privileges within the court. A good example was depicted in the Bollywood film Eklavya:The Royal Guard.

Some consider Mehra Rajputs to have held the same status as Kashyap Rajputs, however this is disputed by those claiming Mehra Rajputs occupied positions within the kitchens of the king.
